Tomayto, tomahto. :P He's known for being funny/being on funny things(Seinfeld of course most notably), so of course he's going to joke whether or not his job description says so specifically. Not all jokes are in good taste, of course, but it was blown way way out of proportion. IMO anyway. To each his own I guess.

I like cricket and watch it, and I know how necessary those helmets are. Historically, people have been seriously injured by not wearing them. Some even recently (Mark Boucher). I don't find it offensive when he said cricket is gay, it's just ignorant (and depending on how you look at it, maybe insensitive) of him. Also, it says something about you when you mean spiritedly make fun of something that you don't know shit about.

He had to apologize which makes his comments even worse.
