Our state constitution should PROTECT citizens' rights, not take them away. This is not an imaginary scenario; it HAS ALREADY HAPPENED in states that have passed similarly restrictive bills. Amendment one HURTS NC families. It's not about gay marriage (which is illegal already); it's about taking away families' ability to protect themselves and their children.

In NC, domestic violence is ANY violent action occurring between two cohabiting adults. They don't have to be married and ANYONE can take out a protective order against anyone they are regularly in contact with for fear or threat of violence. It has nothing to do with this constitutional amendment.

Okay, but I want to confirm that you understand that I was responding to your comment on Leviticus and whether it applies today. Whether homosexuality and heterosexuality are alike about love is a separate issue.

So to speak about this separate issue, well, homosexuality and heterosexuality being about love depends on your definition of these two words. Are we simply speaking of sexual attraction, a non-sexual attraction, and so on? Until we define these terms, we can't equate them with love.

With respect to the rest of your post, it is indeed about gay marriage, and it should be legal. Gay people should be able to live their lives like anyone else, with freedom. Any compromise to this allows homophobia to spread anywhere and everywhere.

I don't understand how homosexuality is similar to "adultery, child sacrifice and bestiality". To me, homosexuality and heterosexuality alike are about love, and the other three are not. Saying otherwise shows an apparent lack of understanding of what it means to be gay.

First, we know what the Bible says. That's not an issue. How we apply it is.

You make a good point. Some details of the Mosaic Law are archaic. However, the admonition on homosexual behavior is sandwiched between adultery, child sacrifice, and besitality--three objective moral standards (Lev. 18:20-23). Also, even the native and alien who sojourned with the Jews were prohibited from practicing these four and others (Lev. 18:24-26), thus again we see a universal moral standard.
