On October 14, 2012 at around 02:30 UT an active region to the left side of the Sun produced this beautiful "Light Bulb" shaped plasma display.

The region, at the time, was not Earth directed but has since moved over the eastern limb of the Sun. Over the next approx. 12 days it will travel across the Earth facing side of our Sun. Future solar flares during that time could create geomagnetic effects on Earth.

This glowing light bulb feature is about 100,000 miles long.
