while the reason for the protest may be valid, burning this piece of crap the "artist" can have only been embarassed of isn't really meaningful - "we need bigger budgets to create paper cones" isn't a very good point to get across.

You miss the point. I want more exposure to art for young people. The ability to confront and look positively at something new and possibly baffling in a positive way is one way to avoid the bigotry of making ill informed judgment on things and more importantly on people. Try to inhabit the exciting world of diversity. Incidently the contemporary visual arts bring economic benefits that would show a good return for the investment made.

you see, this demonstrates the problem: you don't have to be a supporter of "ars gratia artis" as I may be, but making art for the sole purpose of forcing people to not be so judgemental (?), is in my opinion wrong, both because serving a purpose doesn't make any work art by itself, and because bad judgement doesn't equal bigotry - sometimes you just don't like something, and I for one, won't nod thoughtfully at a work that I think is terrible - not for Miro, not for Kandinsky, not for this one.

I fully agree with you on the points you made up to a point. But art does function somehow. What makes great art is an open question. How works get into the public consciousnes is a complex issue. Bigotry is a state of holding a view, making a judgement, without exploring all possibilities. The art in question is not in the object but in the process of transformation from one state to another. Many thanks for your comments they are all valid and in a strange way give publicity to the work.

La bulle inflationniste de l'art comptant pour rien va exploser; ce directeur a juste une longueur d'avance.

I will of course agree that the point of the protest isn't about the quality of the art destroyed, but I can't help but feeling that destroying this work won't get many people concerned - and that is NOT a challenge to destroy a DaVinci, btw ;)

I think you are missing the poster's point here, I think he doesn't believe a bit of paper cone is art work. He probably doesn't believe your action is a valid form of art.

If everyone misses your point, then your point would be invalid.

I don't see how burning a bit of paper cones link to "more exposure to art for young people".

I think your message to young people is that if you don't like something, you should protest by burning stuff. I don't see how your action is different to people who caused the riot in London.

You could have sell your art work and raised some awareness in a constructive manner.

Okay, as I said, enough enough ordinary people wants art over medicine, unemployment benefit, fire service and police service, then art will get funded.

Yes, artists are not patron driven nowadays. However the government does NOT have the obligation to fund your addiction.

I am just saying that to say art is a small industry is UNFAIR. You have film, music industry which are prominent. If you talk about visual art, you have advertising industry, which artists could get a part time job in.
