Special Thanks: Joseph Colombo (associate director of technology services) and Mary Meluso (assistant director of public relations)

A behind the scenes look at the projector system in the Liberty Science Center. At 88 feet, the center's domed IMAX screen is the largest in North America.

The Dark Knight Rises will be the first major Hollywood release to premier at the Center thanks to Christopher Nolan's insistence on filming in a non-digital format.

TDKR features over an hour of IMAX footage, the most of any major motion picture to date.

I was given a chance to film in the theater's projector room and get a tour of its awesome machinery.

I thought it would premier at the London IMAX.

It's the first Hollywood film to premier at the LSC. It's not the film's official premier, it's just special for the theater.

I have a question. I actually volunteer at the center and am going to see it midnight release and want to know will the movie actually go around you like normal dome format or will it be a portion of that dome? I didn't think the director filmed to be in imax dome format so I was curious.

I've gotten that question a lot. From what other people have said on other sites it will stretch around you, but I'm going to find out from Joe when I talk to him again. Thanks for watching!

Is there a reason this man wasn't miked properly? And there has never been a more clear demonstration as to why digital cinema is taking over the Earth. No offense to the man working at the Liberty Science Center, I'm sure he does his job and does it well. But there are so many things that can go wrong when shipping and splicing and loading and projecting a film this way (not to mention the overwhelming cost), that of course Hollywood is going to side with digital. It really is a no-brainer.

Didn't expect to be filming while the projector was running. You can hear him much better with headphones on. In another edit there will be subtitles.

I wonder what resolution they are aiming for.

I read that they are working on a digital camera system; perhaps even a prosumer line!

Completely agree. IMAX is currently developing a digital alternative.

IMAX needs to make a Digital Camera system with a sensor the same size as the IMAX film negative. It would also need to record in at least 8k resolution to show an improvement over 4k Camera systems.

There would be so many benefits having a Digital based IMAX camera. The digital IMAX cameras could be a lot smaller and lighter and you would save a bunch of money since film prints will not be needed.

Should I watch this movie in an IMAX Dome or a regular IMAX? I'm leaning towards the Dome as it is more immersive, but I'm worried about distortion.

Should I see this movie the way it was originally intended to be seen, or should I take the extra step and watch it in a Dome?

So TDKNR will be in IMAX but not 3D? That means I wont have to wear glasses to see in IMAX correct?
