Facebook campaign "Justice for Cisco" puts pressure on Austin police over dog shooting

http://clicky.me/743D

The Austin Police Department is battling what appears to be worldwide outrage after an officer shot and killed a dog in a botched dispatch call. And the outrage is not likely to be tamped down after the release of video and audio of the shooting from the officer's squad car.

APD held a press conference Monday to try and explain how the officer, who was dispatched to a domestic disturbance call Saturday in East Austin, ended up shooting a dog named Cisco owned by Michael Paxton.

Over 20,000 people have joined a Facebook page called "Justice for Cisco" in 24-hours. And the page's followers have been heard loud and clear at Austin Police Department headquarters where they have been fielding what they say are "angry" phone calls all day long.

If a dog gave me a severe bite, I still would fight that he NOT be put down. This police officer is a girl. He'd rather KILL a dog than suffer a little nipp.

If someone shot my dog, I'd have a first degree assault charge on my hands. The man would be out of work for months.

Hedid not tell his dog to "attack" and the Officer should have been trained to understand dogs are territorial. ONCE MORE in the 21st centry we have TASERS for CHRIST SAKE ! oh and uh PEPPER SPRAY/ MACE,Mag Light... and the good ole T.J.Hooker PR-24! BE RESORCEFUL not LESS ! This COP/Police Officer clearly over reacted. If you are scared (CLEARLY) or that UNOBSERVANT the Officer should look for a new line of work.He knew he was wrong after he shot the dog and is notable when interacting w/owner.

"SOLDADO"there are a lot of "stupid"people on YouTube and in the world. When a Civil Servant arrives on a scene i.e. home, park, street they are to do a Scene Size up. Once this is done the SCENE is ever changing. SO NOTHING IS EVER "SIMPLE" as you put it "SOLDADO". The officer in this case was complacent. He tells another Officer "the dog came from out of no where dude". He did not do a scene survey upon arrivial. Cisco's owner based off audio/video he and dog were on private property/residence

Some of these comments (and by extension their authors) are beyond the realm of stupidity. It's very simple folks: when an officer arrives on a scene and a person has a dog, the ACTIONS of the dog will determine how the officers act NOT what the owner says the dog supposedly will do or won't do. The officer didn't know that dog from the next stray dog down the street, so he reacted in response to what the dog did, which in this case happened to be some kind of aggressive behavior.

Uhhh I heard a dog barking, however not viciously to feel threatened and I'm a woman. The video clearly shows how cops can get away with anything

The cop's voice, demeanor clearly indicates a lack of self control. Creepy. Then tried to continually blame the owner of the dog.

Wow...the police officer panicked and within seconds killed a mans dog. And, to boot, he was at the wrong property. The attitude the police officer displays is disgusting.
