I also want to add that this essay should lead to more "love and bringing together" and not more "hate and division". Classrooms that focus on building relationships and sense of community create a love of learning about self, others and the world in which we live. Sadly, I think teachers across the nation feel the building of community and relationships in the classroom is not a priority...It seems to be about the tests...just my opinion.

    word.

when you're pissing off the Thundering Herd from the Lower Third of the bellcurve that most "educators" represent, you *know* you're doing something right.

if these educators were remotely worthy of the name, they'd be beaming with pride at jada's clear conceptual relation and critical comparative analysis. the mere fact that they're butthurt proves beyond doubt that they ought jointly and severally to be removed from the profession, permanently.

I give the girl (and her parents) a lot of credit. Being able to think and write with an indepentdent mind is one of the most powerful things a person can have.

I also think kids realize that the public education system, and big governement programs never ever bring people out of poverty. It only keeps them down.

That young lady is the telling it like it is and I only wish that we would ask the same of our British children. We do not have such books on the agenda, to this day I have never been put in any position to take on my ancestral past via access to the slave narrative as an adult I am just getting to it, taking a look at Mary prince since my mother and father are from the West Indies.

Her critical thinking skills and integrity...Thank you Jada! So... What's next Rochester? Ethnic Studies bans? Oh wait. You expected the kids to just soak up the "you are/were slaves" meme. #EpicFail

I have been waiting a long, long time for a spark to ignite in others what has been burning in my mind since childhood. I believe that Jada Williams is that spark. I just hope that there is (at this point in time) enough protection for her that her message can resound through the ignorance that has landed us here. Our battle has truly begun. Our 'managers' will fight this fight with all their might and means. It probably won't be a pretty fight. But mental war never is. Remember Jada Williams.

THE MATURITY AND INSIGHT DEMONSTRATED by such a young girl!!! She is WISE BEYOND HER YEARS to be ABLE TO RECOGNIZE the INADEQUACIES OF THE US PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM as well as to be able to SEE THE COMPARISON BETWEEN the times of DOUGLASS AND TODAY!!!! MANY warm regards to her. I WISH HER THE VERY BEST IN LIFE. She is a TREASURE!!!!

I saw a news report of her and she cried when she talked about her essay causing a stir, but I hope that she knows that she should never be anything less than proud for what she wrote. It was her truth and the statistics prove that our children are not receiving a proper education. The only thing I would add is that teachers of all colors are failing them. Bravo Jada Williams!
