Andy Griffith Show Pilot Missing Scene

This is the scene which was cut from the syndication print that were used on the Andy Griffith and Make Room for Daddy dvds.

In the previous scene, Widow Perkins had explained to Andy why she was not able to pay her taxes. She had rented a suit for her late husband to wear at his funeral with the plan that the suit would be removed before burial. But he was buried in it and she has been paying 50 cents a day rent for the last 2 years. In this scene Andy confronts the storekeeper who rented the suit.

Turner Classic Movies did a really nice mini-doc about that film and Andy Griffith. Warner Brothers were set to promote Andy as the next Brando with full studio backing, they were floored by his ability and ready to put their money where their mouth was.

All those plans were crushed when Griffith took the role of Andy Taylor. He passed on the big budget movies, Hollywood & fame because as he stated "his heart was truly in The Andy Griffith Show" to him it was family. Very cool

I just want to thank the Lord for having me born in the early 50's. Shows like Andy Griffith Show helped me grow up with the right attitude. Today's shows, in my opinion, does not help our youth of today grow up with the right attitude. It makes it difficult for them. My wife tells me that I'm getting to old and I should keep my opinions to myself.

Let us not forget the reason why we have no good wholesome shows anymore.The producer Danny Thomas was a devout christian who produced the show as well as founding St. Judes Children's Hospital.

Some of the newer syndication prints also cut out the endings. And the original credit sequences, with Andy and Opie, are now rare.

This scene was in the version that they aire around here. They probably just cut it out of the version you seen so they could squeeze a couple more commercials in.
