You're lucky. As an American, you don't need to learn the grammar terminology. The rules are already preprogrammed in your head. I need to learn every word, every syntactic and phonological rule. According to my grammar book, the irrealis moods are 'the main set of grammatical moods that indicate that a certain situation or action is not known to have happened as the speaker is talking'. Some languages have a lot of levels of unreality, so I shouldn't complain that I chose to learn English. ;-)

My native language is Dutch and I am learning English, but I still think that the title is a correct sentence because the sentence is in the irrealis mood ("John would eat if he were hungry"). Although the morphology of the verb 'were' says it's plural, it still is singular (3rd person) but in the irrealis mood.

The source code is included, under the video. It is written in QuickBASIC. I only programmed the graphics shell and I recorded it in DOS-Box to make this video. It is easier for me than using software like After Effects. The video made many magazines and newspapers, including The Huffington Post, Time and Wired.

Say it however you want. Most americans do not use grammar. were is better than was because google was not in the ieghties. I would have phrased it "If google was possible in the eighties.".

Even more exactly, it's a relict from the days of yore, i. e. an old subjunctive. Elderly people still use this "so that it be changed...", but it sounds very formal; still, it shows a good language style, and a will to maintain the beauty of language. Just like an elder French woman I know who still uses the obsolescent subjonctif imparfait. What can I say. It sounds very much like the "fine art of speaking". And way better than the degenerated "English" of nowadays.
