The Great Recession "officially" ended in the summer of 2009, but for 25 million unemployed and underemployed Americans the fallout continues. For too many, their middle-class life has been foreclosed and their dreams have turned into nightmares. Sadly, their stories have too often been ignored. In a strange way they have been "disappeared," evicted from our collective conscience -- a permanent new underclass of long-term unemployed.
Located on Long Island, the birthplace of the post-war suburban American Dream, this documentary follows the story of the long-term unemployed and the shrinking of the middle class by chronicling the lives of four families. Starting in the Summer of 2010, which was supposed to be the summer of recovery, and continuing through the holiday season six months later, we witness the growing difficulties and despair as these people search in vain for employment while their plight and pain are too often invisible to the political and media elite.
This film hopes to remind us of their humanity and restore respect and dignity to their struggle.

When I lost my job and house in the '80s (local recession), it wasn't long before I found another job but living out of my car in the interim was hell on earth (with a child no less). Most people, including family, were VERY hostile to me - I found out Americans are ADDICTED to class structure and money status. NOW, that situation has changed dramatically - NOW the unemployed are walking in my old shoes. READ about Agenda 21. There is NO going back. China is the new 'model' country. Bye bye USA.

I count myself lucky that when I started college in 2005 I decided to focus my education so that I could work overseas. Straight out of college I'm making a good middle class salary. The people here ask me "so, when are you going back to America?" and I just laugh. Why go back? What's there to go back to?

For every job interview I went to there were 300 to 500 candidates applying. I left Long Island because of this and took my degree in mathematics to somewhere else where they took me seriously. I now have the best job in the world!

The thing which struck me was he was Jewish and the Jewish are predisposed to polycythemia , an iron loading disease. A researcher recently was working with a plague vaccine , which was not considered dangerous , but , he didn't know about the iron excess he had and this vaccine virus killed him . The excess iron in his body allowed this 'safe' virus to kill him. Could the Jewish guy cleaning his basement actually have had excess iron which NOW allowed the hantavirus to kill him ?

The same entrenched social class system is prevalent in Canada as well. I lost my job about 9 years ago (thankfully I’m working now) and was basically shunned by peers and friends.

Okay, I agree that in terms of accepting campaign money, there is not much of a difference between the parties, but once you start spouting antisemitism, that's when I stop listening. Saying that Goldman Sachs did what they did because they are Jewish is stupid. 1/3 of the current Supreme Court justices are Jewish, which is actually less than 40%, but either way, that's still a minority.
