The new season will see the last days of the Ponds, with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill making their final rollercoaster voyage with The Doctor (Matt Smith). Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) have been at the Doctor's side for more than two seasons but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?

New guest stars so far confirmed to star will include David Bradley, Rupert Graves and Mark Williams. Season 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when The Doctor meets a new friend - the recently-announced new companion, played by Jenna-Louse Coleman. Prepare yourselves for thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year.

Fourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes - each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you've never seen them before.

The New Series is a continuation of the Classic Series, however, it is (IMO) different in many ways. Even though I find the CS superior, I would recommend starting with the NS. Then, if you like it, go back and watch the best of the CS. As for where to start with the NS...starting with the current Doctor Matt Smith would make sense (The Eleventh Hour) as you would get the gist of the show quickly. Equally valid you could start with the first NS story "Ros"e and go from there. Hope that helps.

It's call series now not seasons. The old one were called seasons but they are called series these days

The Doctor is an alien (the last of his species) who can travel through time and space, and he likes to pick people (mainly humans, but he used to travel with other aliens and even robots) to travel with him and go on and have adventures.

And that basically how the show works. It's really great, you should give it a try.
