The impossible texting & driving test

More and more traffic accidents are due to texting. If we want to reduce the 1.2 million traffic victims worldwide each year, we have to act. How do you convince youngsters not to text while driving? Prove them it is a very bad idea: oblige them to text while driving! See how Belgian learner drivers reacted when they were told they had to pass the mobile phone test in order to get their driver's license.

I never touch my phone while driving. If I GPS, I turn the volume all the way up and it put on the passenger seat. If I need to text, I will either pull over to the side of the road, or wait for a stop light. It isn't hard people. You are all spoiled and will pay for it some day.

Lets just eliminate all distractions No Radio/cd/Nav players - Distraction playing with screen/buttons (annoying song can annoy you No Backseat - Distraction if someone can't hear you, driver turns his head to speak No Passenger seat - same as above No Glove Box - Looking 4 something No mid glove compartment " No Cup Holders - Eyes off road No Speedometer " No RPM screen " No Gas gauge " No Temp gauge " Because all of that can cause an accident if you look away from the road.

If I was a passenger in a texter and driver's car, I'd swipe the smart phone from the smart-ass, type, "later," on it, and tell the driver he's damn lucky I don't throw it out the window. Sure, the driver will get pissed, but at least we'll still be alive. Small price to pay in the grand scheme of things.

Texting while driving is completely preventable. Don't touch your phone.

Arguing is perhaps less preventable.

If you're implying that people should be able to text while driving, then you clearly have no scope on the matter.
