"In the spirit of Alien Vs Predator" - which was a complete abortion of a film that Scott hated, and the sooner people mentally excise it from canon the better.

Every extended universe produces a few turds, and AVP is foremost among them, so suggesting Prometheus should have been in that vein is. Uh. Hmm. Problematic.

The ultimate film of this type is Stalker by Tarkovsky. Prometheus is a total failure artistically in the vein of Alien vs Predator, because it does not touch on the human spirit. For an example of how Prometheus could and should have been done read Bordered in Black by Larry Niven.
