The family is under assault by the huge number of straight divorces. The number of gays is so small that it is absurd to claim that the gays are a threat to the family. Unless you are talking about keeping up appearances, meaning that its a threat to the family if gay people no longer want to pretend they are happy in a straight marriage. Gays constitute around 5% of the population. No sensible person thinks that being gay is a choice, rather than an orientation. There is NO threat to the 'family' or to the future of the species.
