I think the funniest part is that people think that the point of this video (and other criticisms of the MPDG) is to make fun of a real person; the point of the trope is that these girls would never actually exist in real life, that they're a cliché that doesn't exist (often written by men), and that the guys chasing this 'dream girl' are misguided.

It has absolutely nothing to do with these non-existent women, just the guys searching for a muse who will "inspire" them.

    but y'know, whatever.

Essentially, a female character designed to further the life of the male protagonist in a positive way. She comes outta nowhere & he doesn't know how to perceive her. Probably because she has little to no background that doesn't directly effect his oncoming "lifechange", and thus has no reason but to behave in ways that will influence him. He 'gets out of his slump'/'has an epiphany' etc and she fades and is gone by the end of the movie, as her duty is done. That's why Ramona is a good example.

I briefly went out with a girl who tried SO hard to exhibit these traits in her real life. Years later, she and her husband/band mate killed themselves and their five year old after she received a cancer diagnosis. These MPDG tropes are as dangerous in their own way as fat shaming. They create an unrealistic idea of what life can be like if only you believed in magic, or fairies, or karma, or "the moment" or whatever. Real life is real life.
