Imagine you're Bob, you're in the /pixar/toystory2/cache, you want to clear it out, you do rm * or rm -rf * (remove, recursive force, everything) in that directory. Recursive means it also applies to directories underneath it.

If you're not careful, its absolutely possible to be just one level up, in /pixar/toystory2, run the same command, and delete the whole movie by sheer accident.

You posted that comment to a Linux system. Every server platform has it's place and it's strengths. It's usually the operator which is the issue.
