In which John Green teaches you about capitalism and socialism in a way that is sure to please commenters from both sides of the debate. Learn how capitalism arose from the industrial revolution, and then gave rise to socialism. Learn about how we got from the British East India Company to iPhones and consumer culture in just a couple of hundred years. Stops along the way include the rise of industrial capitalism, mass production, disgruntled workers, Karl Marx, and the Socialist Beard. The socialist reactions to the ills of capitalism are covered as well, and John discusses some of the ideas of Karl Marx, and how they've been implemented or ignored in various socialist states. Plus, there are robots!

I'm glad you mentioned the English Civil War, but I submit that it is far more important that you say.

Like, the English Civil War, and the various civil unrest that went with it, was the beginning of the American Revolution. Ideas that started in the English Civil War, proposed by the Levellers and other groups, were the basis of the foundation of the US. The Republic that resulted from the ECW did not last, but the ECW2.0 a la Amer. Rev. did because we learned the lessons from that period.

Perhaps I would pay a different company to make my raod than Gov't does. Perhaps I'd chose a different hospital or health plan. Perhaps my reasons for choosing those companies are better for me, or my ideas. Maybe one gives back to the community more.

But, I have 60% less control of my economic environment now, with my OWN labor valued. Worse, it's achieved by violent means, so that others may chose what is best for me with my work... lol, more like best for them.

    It's bankrupt, morally.

    cont..

As for me in America, with my business and personal taxation, it's closer to 60%, perhaps higher.

It's not that I don't want health care or roads... I do at this time. But I don't want others pointing guns at me to steal that money, and decide from themselves who and how those roads are built, or what healthcare succeeds.

Money is my voice in commerce. I as a consumer decide what business should get my money (from my labor) and why. Not you, not a majority, not the politically powerful.

It doesn't really matter the number... it could be 5%, the point is it's theft, done by Force. As for America, here it is, about 43%t average. nowandfutures(dot)com/taxes.html

You, like many socialists, rationalize the output to this theft. Since some of it is returned to me in other forms, so it's ok to point guns at me... but Primula It's not, and it's not moral. It's my labor, my work, and no one else owns that of minet. Not you, not a majority, not a Gov't, unless I am a slave.

Alright, I'm not entirely sure what country in which you live, because the only country I can think of that takes 60% and above in taxes is France. America doesn't do that. On the other hand, those high taxes are going towards your benefit. That's right you, and you're neighbors. What, you're saying that you don't want healthcare, education, roads, etc.? True capitalism is what happens when companies outsource. The most efficient work from people without spending money on them (work benefits).

Haha, sure, except with your Gov't, it's not, "hey can I borrow your car." but rather it's, "Hey you, gimme 60% of your money earned via your labor, or else I'll send men with guns to cage you. Resists, and I'll shoot your ass."

You make Gov't out to be a choice, where I chose to agree with your laws or not, chose to give you my car or not. It's not, however, as you dream it is. It's initiating violence to achieve goals of others.. a majority or political elite.

You are disgusting. As most people want to compromise by nonviolent means. By, uh, I don't know, talking! Yeah, how about that? "Hey Cindy, may I borrow your car for the weekend?" "Oh, I don't know Jared, I need it for my business meeting by Monday." "That's okay, how about I borrow it for just Saturday and then bring it back on Sunday, does that work for you?" "Yeah, that would be great!" - An example of a successful compromise without violence or argument.
