Yes, they happen for an important reason. Who is more important to you; a full grown woman, or an infant who is deathly ill in the womb and/or wouldn't survive outside of it? It doesn't make sense to come at the issue of abortion with only emotions. When you do, the rights and freedom the mother should have over her own body, are squashed under the weight of 'It's a baby, oh the poor innocent thing'. It's not JUST about the embryo, or the zygote or the fetus. It's about the mother's body.

What he said here makes perfect sense, and just because he didn't bend to the reporters attempt to steer the question, doesn't mean he thinks late term abortions are something you just do on a whim. Late term and partial birth abortions are extreme and rare cases, done only when the mother's life is in danger and/or the baby is already dead. Treating it like those happen every day is misleading and false. Women should have the right to choose, period, end of discussion.
