Extra Credit: Can you calculate the exposure time?
I make videos to save up for my kids' college fund. I now have a new kid, so I need you to share this with anyone who loves cameras. http://on.fb.me/DSLRShutter
We're going to have another baby!... better videos coming up involving pregnancy photos like you've never seen them before....

You can actually rent a Phantom if you have something to research or you just want to have fun. Use this form and tell them Smarter Every Day sent you! http://bit.ly/wQPlHd

The custom music was created by "A Shell In The Pit".
Gordon has compiled an album of all his Smarter Every Day Tracks. It's pretty cool. Go buy it: http://ashellinthepit.bandcamp.com/al...
The names of the song used here is "The Lynx".

Instead of saving for my kids' college, I make videos using the money I would have saved.
The thought is it will help educate the world as a whole, and one day generate enough revenue to pay for their education. Until then if you appreciate what you've learned in this video and the effort that went in to it, please share the video. If you REALLY liked it, feel free to pitch a few dollars towards their college fund by clicking here:

Warm Regards,

Thanks for the great vid, seems like the shutter was open for about 1/30th of a second.

It would be great to see this done at a shutter speed greater than the cameras flash sync speed. That way you see the leading and trailing shutter moving at the same time.

Not everyone realises that at high speeds the shutter doesnt completely open in the conventional sense.

They allowed camcorders in the delivery room in the 90s, and I'm sure the policy hasn't changed either.

It is likely similar to the shutters used in projectors, Perhaps there is a cylinder with cut-outs that does the rolling.
