    The idea is that anyone sitting in their living room watching Canal+ can gain an appreciation of great cinema. So it was the living room rug that anthropomorphized into a director. This would be impossible to do with a regular rug, so they used a bear skin rug. The point isn't that it's a bear, but something in your living room that's seen a lot of movies. The bear part helped sell character, but the bigger idea of the passive watching in the living room is lost if you have a real bear, moron.
