Everyone already know that the Hunger Games totally beat twilight. Twilight is baby poop compared to this.

It has elements from ancient European cultures indeed, but the whole story is far from unique as was suggested. Nonetheless I liked the book a lot, don't misunderstand me! However one cannot deny BR influences... BR was btw not an "obscure story" but a cult movie... well everywhere in the cultivated world (where it was not banned).

Concerning "my education on Greek and Roman myths"... I read the Odysseus and Iliad... in the original Greek and Latin... so I agree on the influences...

Another thing that you should learn about is the concept of "Panem et Circenses" which is another big piece of influence on The Hunger Games series. In fact, the country of the story, Panem, takes its name from it.

The Hunger Games didn't copy anything from an obscure Japanese story. Maybe you should try getting educated about Greek and Roman myths and culture like the stories of Spartacus and Theseus and the Minotaur as well as learning about gladiator fights and see that those are what influenced the creation of THG along with the current reality show phenomenon. Unlike BR, THG is a much bigger story than just a death battle between teens.
