Harlan Ellison is right on about this. I saw an article in the New York Times recently about Google (one of the Riche$t companies on Earth) trying to cajole artists into letting Google use their artwork for free as "skins" on the new Google browser. The artists were told 'it will be good exposure for your work" . What bs is that ?!! Why should Google or any other for-profit business use artist's work for free ? Artists, writers, composers, etc. have to pay the bills like everyone else.
Or how viacom who was against having a minimum wage for writers who produce the company's internet content arguing that you can't really put a price on internet content and then shortly afterward suing youtube for a BILLION dollars.
I would love to take my distributer to the cleaners for cheating me but myt attorneys costs money. It cost me over $700 just to get my dvds back and get out of my contract. What I did learn is that if there just becasue you have a contract with a distributer does not mean that you will be paid fairly!
Warner Brothers is not the only distributer doing this add IMD of Portland Oregon to your list of crooks who want content for free and then won't pay.
He is absolutely right. Those peop[e including distributers want us to give them our work for nothing. I just had to hire an attorney to get back my films because the distributer was selling them and not paying me anything.
He is so right. One month ago, I gave 50 photos to the newspaper I'm working for and if the local chief editor wasn't a very nice guy, I would have get nothing for it just because it is "only" an online gallery!!! Very "nice" policy of the publishing company...
