This song BELONGS to Brenda Holloway. She co-wrote it and no one has ever sung it with the depth and feeling that she had. A brilliant recording that Berry Gordy failed to promote fully.

I love her voice. Great vocals and a down to earth beautiful person.

BST version is much better and more jazzier. A lot of times originals aren't always good.

The Shirelles wrote a song Franki Vallie sang later, which is "Will you still love me tomorrow. I don't really care for the Shirelles version but Frankie Valli and Four Season's is much better. Same goes for Shop Around by Smoky Robinson. Don't like his version but Captain and Tennilles is much better.

I disagree. I have listened to both and I prefer Brenda's version. Also Brenda wrote it and this gives her version more authenticity. Anyway, music is and will always be subjective. There is no such thing as better when it comes to music. We all have our own tastes and we have our own reasons for liking one version over another. No matter how much you tell me that you like BS&T more, I will always like Brenda's version more.

Thanks to youtube I have discovered some amazing soul singers who are much more pop oriented in their approach to soul. I listened to Dionne warwick but I just started listening to Holloway (This performance is killer). I just discovered the work of Wanda Young Rogers of the Marvelettes and Jessica Cleaves of the Friends of Distinction/EWF. Their vocal styling is very sophisticated (especially to someone who grew up listening to Stax).

this isn't the original 1968 (or thereabouts) version of this song. She has obviously covered her own song and given it very late 20th century musical sensibilities. I prefer the original. I wonder where the original version is.

Brenda wrote it and so it is coming straight from her heart. That is why I will always prefer her original version.

Sounds like a Jamerson part for sure, but doesn't sound like his tone or playing to me.
