This is the biggest Rivalry in the Fredericksburg Area. Chancellor v.s Courtland, this game dates back to 1988 when Courtland split off into Chancellor High School.
Chancellor(6-0) and Courtland(5-1) were two of the areas top teams at this point in the season. Chancellor came in demolishing Caroline 56-0, and Courtlands comeback came up short against defending state champion Monticello.
Courtland opened this game with a bad taste, fumbling a squib kickoff and the Chargers recovers. Chancellor would punch it in but miss the two point conversion, they were up 6-0. Four plays later Luke Sellars connected with Jay Madison for a touchdown pass for a score and Courtland was up 6-7.
The rest of the first half both teams traded punches while Chancellor went into halftime with a 19-14 lead.
After Chancellor failed to punch in the ball inside of the 25 yard line, Courtland went on an 18 play scoring drive that ended with a Luke Sellars two yard run on a 4th and Goal to go ahead.
Chancellor would respond back with a WR reverse pass on a critical 3rd down and end up punching it in for the lead. Chancellor would then hold on to beat Courtland for the first time since 2003 and extend its lead in the series 12-9.
You could sense the hatred in the air throughout this entire game. Both teams wanted to win, and Chancellor came out on top.
