The Intercity train 3 from Helsinki to Joensuu is here passing Tikkala meeting point on 20th Dec 2008. It's the darkest time of the year, so at 2:25 PM daylight is already diminishing as you can see. At about 4:00 PM it will be totally dark. On the other hand, nights at midsummer doesn't get totally dark at all. Here at 62° latitude the length of the day varies alot between summer and winter; also the transition between daylight and darkness takes over an hour.
