Paul Keres (born January 7, 1916, Narva, Estonia -- died June 5, 1975, Helsinki, Finland) was an Estonian chess grandmaster and one of the strongest chess players of all time. Keres was also a highly respected chess author. On four consecutive occasions he narrowly missed the chance of a World Championship match by being runner-up in the Candidates' Tournament. Many claim him to be the strongest player never to become World Chess Champion. He was nicknamed "The Crown Prince of Chess". Keres won the 1938 AVRO Tournament in The Netherlands, which qualified him for a World Championship match against Alexander Alekhine, but the match never took place. Keres won three Soviet Chess Championships (1947, 1950, and 1951), as well as several elite tournaments over top-class fields, such as Semmering 1937, Budapest 1952, and Los Angeles 1963.

David Ionovich Bronstein (February 19, 1924 -- December 5, 2006) was renowned as a leading chess grandmaster and writer. Described as a creative genius and master of tactics by pundits and plaudits the world over, Bronstein provided ample evidence that chess should be regarded as part science, part art.

you ruskies can survive anything: cold weather, napoleon, hitler, communism, collectivism, alcoholism (well, the poles and irish have been top drinkers in recent years in europe...), having nuclear bombs? (remains to be seen)... ronald reagan? putin? whats interesting is that during our oldest president's rule of 8 years under reagan you guys went through 4 leaders... wait, you didn't survive bobby Fischer!, and as our cold war propaganda goes you guys ganged up on him with several of your top players (in secret) and still got your butt kicked, but over all russian chess players are the best

1990 in america was a flat dull year for the stock market, if you were aggressive you could have lost 10% or so that year, so maybe a healthier russia could have helped us a bit... 1991 was a fantastic year in the stock market, i kicked ass - being in janus 20 that year put me in the top 2%!

in recent months we have a "increasing" deflation, but its not reported!
