Takin' Over the Asylum
This is an award-winning series about an aspiring disc-jockey who holds--and hates-- a 'real' job as a salesman. The best gig he can find is at a local mental institution, playing oldies for a mixed bag of patients. Can he revive their interest in music? More importantly, can he poke some life into his own dying dream? Starring Ken Stott as the alcoholic, cynical disc jockey, and a startlingly young David Tennant as his enthusiastic, manic-depressive on-air-partner. This series is much better than I expected. I only got it to see Tennant in an early role. But the plot is so involving, and the acting and music so good, that I forgot that it was Tennant--I began to see him as his character, instead. A truly great series; won lots of awards and deserved them all.
