We knew we would have to film the interior in a specially constructed set which would allow full control of the shots.
We wanted to shoot all four walls in the set, but use the exterior of a local, independent and excellent comic shop, The Stack.
Using this as an exterior worked brilliantly, except the window & door needed to match to the interior shots. This is where Window Seats drummer Tony Furnell stepped in, armed with Photoshop, a coffee pot and many long nights our comic store fantasy became placed within a local comic shop. The Wolverine claws made by Ciaran at http://imakeanything.co.uk were made accurate to the film props and custom-fitted to Jude's hands.
The prop claws from one take were combined with Jude's hand from another take, in after-effects, for this quick reveal scene.

To make the proton pack scene as convincing as possible we shot the scene with live pyrotechnics and lighting effects. The VFX of the proton steam, smoke, set disturbance and additional lighting effects were added in post-production.
Many thanks to Ciaran and Alan for providing the pre and post effects that make this scene look perfect.

Although we transform into superheroes in the video, we wanted to have a back-story element. Initially we thought about a video backstory in the form of cutaways, but decided a comic book back-story would be much more fitting and achievable. We took references from movies & games, and took photos of each other to match the frame exactly. These photos were then processed and merged with the adapted versions of the frames in order to have digital illustrations of us in comic form.
Each individual pane was then placed into the layout of a real life comic, and filmed to enable a transition to be filmed on set for each character's comic.
Comic book transitions from steadicam footage used 'Twitch' plugin by Video Co pilot in After Effects. Band comic book effect used 'Toonit' plugin from Red Giant also done in Adobe After Effects CS4.
