VIB is een non-profit onderzoeksinstituut in de levenswetenschappen. Zo'n 1100 wetenschappers en technici verrrichten basisonderzoek naar de moleculaire mechanismen die instaan voor de werking van het menselijk lichaam, planten en micro-organismen. Met zijn technologie trasfer activiteiten beoogt VIB de omzeting van onderzoeksresultaten in producten ten dienste van de consument en de patiënt.
