I use a program called Audacity (free download) to record my audio. I have a Starpower SP-1 mic (cheap- $15) hooked up to an M-Audio Mobile Pre usb preamp/interface. (bought at a goodwill for $10 usually about $100) I have it all going through my laptop. It's working pretty decent for me so far.
