@horseawareness It's the coat. I have a chestnut Haflinger who changes colors like that. It refracts light differently because of the shape of the shaft of the hair follicle. Kinda neat! (He does look awfully pretty like that though)

Does the horses tail being active always mean the horse is agitated? I've watched my horses play in the pasture and when they are having a good time their horses are going crazy. Is there a difference?

What are your thoughts on Orchard Grass hay? It's pretty much the number 1 hay choice in the area. It's very hard to find oat hay or alfalfa. I know every bale seems to be different. Sweet grass in one, clover in another. It's the only hay we are feeding right now.
