I am a musical person. I love music of all genres and time periods. But what I love most of all, is the guitar.I can play the piano very well, but I can barely play the guitar. Yet, I have become a good judge of skill and talent. And based on my observation I have devised this list of who I think are the Top 10 Greatest Guitarist of All Time:
1. Andrés Segovia (self taught)
2. Django Reinhardt
3. Shawn Lane
4. John McLaughlin (self taught)
5.Tommy Emmanuel
6. Paco de Lucía
7. Lenny Breau
8. Jimi Hendrix
9. Sabicas
10. Joe Pass
But of all these people, Buckethead is my favorite. Much like Tommy Emmanuel and Chet Atkins, he plays a wide variety of genres, each with a tremendous show of skill. He has played, metal, bluegrass, funk, and even used a rubber chicken as an instrument. He can play the guitar, bass, banjo, drums, and keyboards all extremely well. I am guessing that everyone in the world would like at least one of his songs.
I encourage everyone to listen to these guitarists, to expand their horizons, and adopt a more indepth appreciation of music that allows you to better enjoy and perfom the magnificient art.
Recommended Listening:
The Guitar Trio- Friday Night in San Fransisco Live
Django Reinhardt- Djangology (Bluebird)
Joe Pass- Virtuoso
John Williams- The Seville Concert
