Anyway, I'm uploading this (because this probably doesn't affect you at all) to prove a point. The story is I made a level, worked a good month on it. I was making it to enter into a level design contest. People began comparing it to Kaizo and saying it's unfair, which in some situations I overlooked I can agree. I'm okay with that, but when one starts bashing it because it's difficult and one doesn't take the time to think things through. It's not like you're in a big rush (500 seconds which equals about 8 minutes and 20 seconds). The point I'm trying to prove is that, because the easiest paths were not blatantly obvious, doesn't mean it's completely garbage. I'll admit that it's nowhere near the best, but it is also nowhere near the worst. It could use a bit more polishing up as well (hints to why a few things were kinda messy near the end as I had to test it on a keyboard, platforming with a keyboard is a huge turn off for me), but it isn't THAT bad. Also, no tools, straight keyboard. COME AT ME

During the night I came to regret my decision in regards to this video's editing. Essentially, the level is pure platforming. Room secret 3 is platforming and learning the layout of the platforming. After a while, all you are doing is somewhat repetitive motions of going through jumps in the hope of landing everything perfectly, which... isn't conducive to talking after a few laps.
If I only showed a few runs and the winning run, the video would be quite short, but more important I had judged that the feeling of 'stress' that the level conveys would be loss, since you never know when the slightest mistake will make you trip up and have to start over.
So I decided to edit the video thusly, which I think was a mistake. Don't be afraid to click around the video's progress bar or something to skip ahead!

Wanna know what tropes were used for this episode? Go here! http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php...
The self-imposed challenge: Recreate the classic harem manga series Love Hina by Ken Akumatsu with the limited resources of Touhou virtual doll program create.swf FROM SCRATCH. I.E. Don't look at the manga, don't watch the anime, don't listen to the music, don't use any previously-made music, and just rewrite the whole damn thing.
The goal: Make music, do a bazillion voices, push the limits of create.swf, hold similar create.swf videos to higher standards and inspire newbies, to entertain, and most importantly, to see if I could do it/how hard it would be.
The result: "Five (Dangerous) Months At The Hinata Inn"! It's not an abridged series, and it's not really a retelling because I plan to send this whole thing off the rails. It's basically reassembling a story from the ground up, and since I remade half of the first chapter of Love Hina (plus my own little prologue) in create.swf, I feel like I just remade a scene from Avatar on a graphing calculator.
And in regards to how hard it was, it took two non-stop weeks of work while I was sick and doing midterms (and I'll admit I did rush it a bit, since I couldn't fit in enough music in the latter half, but as I go on, I'll have more and more to choose from). Originally, I thought I was going to compress the first book into a ten minute episode, but then I realize that took too long, so I decided to compress the first third, but that took too long, too, so I'm dividing it into quarters. I'mma take a week off after this before working on Episode 1.2.
Here's a few more explanations regarding my creative decisions: -Music: As a self-imposed challenge, I wanted to make an original soundtrack. I didn't want to get caged into the original LH soundtrack (to be honest, I completely ignored it), and I already have enough musical know-how to make my own music, so I figured "why not?". Sadly/thankfully (depending on who you ask), you won't get to hear "Sakura Saku", but it wouldn't be a 100% rebuild if I used non-original music. (And no: there'll be no remakes of the soundtrack. I just wanted to make some music.) -Story/Characters: We all have things we don't like about any character/story, so if I'm going to remake a series, I'm going to do it my own way: a complete retooling of every single character, plus the addition/removal of a few others. Also, rather than the episodic nature of the original, I'm planning for one continuous story (see Episode Titling for what I mean). -Tone: On paper, LH is a very dark story: a hopeless loser gets stuck at an inn where he's gleefully tortured daily by its residence while studying (in vain) to get into a university for some girl he barely remembers. So, I decided to simultaneously crank up the darkness AND the brightness for effect: parts of it become darkly comical, while others become just plain dark. -Voices: I'm doing the entire cast by myself. You may recognize some of the voices from my Touhou skits, as Kitsune and Marisa share the same voice, as do Kanako and Reimu, Yuuka and Haruka, and so on. I know my pronunciation of the names will be off for this episode, but I'll have that fixed as I go on. -Ecchi Content: Due to create.swf's limitations, it's completely removed, and considering LH is pretty damn perverted, some of you peeps who are going in blind and then read/watch the source material are in for a SHOCK. Inversely, you fans of the original are in for a disappointment to know Naru and Keitaro won't have a naked first impression. -Animation: This whole thing was done in create.swf, a virtual doll program designed for characters from the Touhou Project series. Each frame is a png image caught with AndySnap, then lipsynched in Sony Vegas. More than twenty props had to be custom-made for this series. -Episode Titling: Episodes are divided by episode and sequence (Episode 1.1 = Episode 1, Sequence 1). For "Five Dangerous Months", there will be three episodes and about ten-twelve sequences.
Huge thanks to KirbyM, Thefre, and KimikoMuffin for providing the resources needed to make this, and many apologies to Ken Akumatsu for my little experiment (I wish I could do a Japanese dub of this, but for now, let's assume everything's being passed through an English language filter).
Anyway, enjoy the episode!
Fun facts about this episode: -739 png images were caught to make this episode. About 30 or so went unused. -There are several Touhou/Walfas cameos all over the place. Try and spot them all! -Very few of the sets come with create.swf. The inn and its different camera angles were three seperate png files I animated myself (with some advice from KimikoMuffin).
