One other thing...Buddy was playing brilliantly up until his death at age 69 in 1987. Heart failure following surgery for a malignant brain tumor...no drug or alcohol crap. I would really love to see how Travis Barker is doing when he's 69, if he ever gets to that age.

@20drummer11 I was just going to make a comment about Steve's ride in this one when I saw your comment. For this piece, I would have preferred a slightly larger ride with a bit more "wash". Nevertheless, he really is a great player. Always enjoy listening to him.

Wow! This is great! Akira Jimbo really lays down a nice groove. And I've always liked Lee Ritenour and Abe Laboriel. I especially like how Abe always "dances" when he plays; he's just so into it!

I agree with spinnernet1...he was a great president. To have to fill the shoes of the immortal FDR must have been extremely daunting for him, but he did it, and he did it his own way...plain spoken, yet humble at times. The more I've read about him, the more I've come to respect this hard-working...

@Bresalio I tend to agree with blacbraun on the voices in the chorus ("Any time at all"). But, I'm pretty sure that John is singing all the verses ("If you need somebody to love", etc.)

As I recall, this used to be called the "GG Turner Band" back in the '80s. But, hey, now it's "Art Napolitano and the GG Turner Band". Sorry Mr. Naplitano, but before you start putting yourself out front as "the guitar man", you might want to listen to some YouTube clips of Pat Metheny.

Very difficult to comment on this one. I can't find enough superlatives! Simply outstanding! I just loved when Oscar Peterson was playing with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen.

Too much to say, so some random thoughts. First, the Grammys are a self-congratulatory promotional propaganda machine constructed by the margin-driven record industry. All they do is feverishly over-promote pop-rap-hiphop crap, wherein many of the artists will be forgotten in the next couple year...

Man, does this suck or what?! No groove whatsoever! Lots of over-driven "noise". Sounds like the drummer is just tuning up. What a waste! Just another heavy metal wannabe drummer. Sorry.

For all the so-called heavy metal guitar "shredders" out there who use overdrive (distortion) to compensate for their inadequacies, you should listen to this! Pat uses very little in terms of "effects" on this tune, yet his technique is impeccable.

I'm at a loss for words except for...fantastic!!! I saw the Pat Metheny Group a couple times back in the late 1970s in Minneapolis...they were great! Just keeps getting better.

Tough to pick an absolute "favorite" Steely Dan tune, but this one ranks up there in my top 10. Impeccable execution by all musicians. Love the Tom Scott horn arrangements.

Great teachers are rare these days. I had some when I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s. The public school system in the US does not foster great teachers; it only fosters teachers' union demands. When will we all actually learn?!
