'..."the modern spirit" in music is in reality the spirit of Antichrist.'

Peter Warlock, August 9th, 1918

'Shang Ti has given his command! Uphold the orthodox, dispel the heterodox...'

(Tun Chia Ceremony: Mao Shan Taoist tradition.)

'We must be ready for an immense event in the divine order which we are travelling towards with an accelerated speed that must astound all those who watch. Awesome oracles have pronounced already that the time is now.'

Joseph de Maistre

Metaphysical Axiomata ~ Nigel Jackson

1. To attain the Centre is to be Priest and King, restored to mans primal estate in Paradise.

2. At the Wheel's Centre the Motionless Mover where the unity of Knowledge and Power is realised as actionless activity.

3. Adam and Eve tended roses in Paradise, which was their observance of the Divine Cultus.

4. The Heart is the interior cavern of uncreated Light, royal temple of the Eternal Word.

5. Knowledge is Liberation, realisation of the Eternal Word as transcendent Self.

6. The building of the Temple is the emanation of the Heavenly Man, its destruction his Fall, its restoration his Regeneration.

7. When man tasted of the Tree of Good and Evil he was precipitated from Unity into duality and dissonance, from Harmony into the conflict of contraries.

8. Salvation in the Eternal Word delivers man from multiplicity to Unity, regenerating Man from becoming to Being.

9. The Misguider is centrifugal seperation from the authentic principle of Being, that which lures us in dispersion from the Centre.

10. Every sin is the instrument of its own affliction, every sin contains its own expiation.

11. Equality is antagonism: hierarchy is harmony.

This is the video channel for the c.o.t.b. / VIA SOLIS multi-media video art project featuring Nigel Jackson, Patricia Jackson and others.

With roots extending back to early activities in the avant-garde milieux of late 1970s-early 80s Manchester post-punk and analogue electronica, Patti Jackson and Nigel Jackson's multi-media video art project c.o.t.b./VIA SOLIS combines an aesthetic of medievalist art-folk with the plangent austerity of 20th century English classicism to generate a unique strain of sound inspired by the folk-song collections of Cecil Sharp, the contrapuntal compositional harmonics and Pan-Celtic mystique of Peter Warlock, the Catholic Symbolisme of Joris Karl Huysmans and themes drawn from certain metaphysical streams, invoking inspiration from the doctrines expounded by such luminaries as Rene Guenon, Joseph de Maistre, Louis Charbonneau-Lassay and Frithjof Schuon. Nigel has written several well-received papers on the life and work of Peter Warlock which have seen publication in a number of journals over the last decade in addition to a wide-ranging oeuvre exploring a diversity of topics from European folklore to Irfanic mysticism and as an artist specialising in traditional and medieval symbology. Recent years have seen him shift into a new phase of creative work combining the media of music, poetics and video art to transmit a powerful symbolic content as a corrective theriac to contemporary mal-du-siecle and a spiritual weapon against the adverse influences which predominate during the Kaliyuga. This enigmatic grouping has gained a reputation as one of the most arcane manifestations of esoteric musicology to have emerged from the Manchester underground: the work of c.o.t.b./VIA SOLIS exemplifies musical textures founded upon real instrumentation wherein archaic, crystalline resonances of zither and harpsichord radiate through elusive mist-tides of electronic atmospherics to the pulse of the tabor, to reify a mood or musickal-aesthetic 'mode' focussed via the lens of a creative-visionary sensibility attuned to the sacred topographies of Primaeval Syrie, sensitive to the subtle forms emanating from the interior Earth of Visions, from the illuminant peak of the cosmic 'Mountain of Victories', paradaisical reverberations from the realm of Hyperborean Albion...'I am as a Garden, the like of which will never exist...'

Symbolic notes re. 'The Four Stations'

Esoteric imagery and pattern based upon 'Qalandar Yoga' by Sayyed Martuza and the 'Chari Maqam-bhed' of Abd al-Hakim. . These yogic treatises described the mystical and initiatory journey through the 'Four Stations' (Maqamat) and their ruling Firishtah (Archangels) within the archetypal anatomy of the Primordial Man (Al Insan al-Qadim). Note that this journey is not conceived of as a vertical linear pathway but rather as a spiralline movement inward, tracing the pathway to the Heart, resuming the classical colour symbolism of the stages of the Opus of spiritual Alchemy (Al-Kimiya Ruhaniyya). The four stations of the light-kernel Luz are as follows:

(1) Base of the Spine - ruled by Jibrail in the form of a Peacock (the Sufi poet Ruzbehan Baqli invokes Jibrail as the 'peacock among the angels') it corresponds to the earth-element and the colour yellow: it is called Nasut Maqam, equating with the sensorial Material World - this is the Manzil of Shariah, the exoteric Law and the practise of the outward obligations of religion. It corresponds with the Delicate Body (Tan Latif) and is the seat of Jivatma, the individual Self, the 'Lord of the Subtle Body'. Its season is Autumn and it's invocation is 'La Illaha Illallah'.

(2) Navel - ruled by Israfil in the form of a Serpent, it corresponds to the air element and the colour green: it is called Malkut Maqam, equating with the Angelic World - this is the Manzil of Tariqah, the esoteric Way, realised through extinction of attachments and passions. It corresponds with the Unveiled Body (Tan Kashif) and is the centre from whence emanate the subtle energy-winds and the seat of the light of the Atma (Self). Its season is Winter and its invocation is YA HU.

(3) Brow/Third Eye - ruled by Mikail in the form of an Elephant, it corresponds to the water-element and the colour white: it is called Jabrut Maqam, equating with the World of Divine Sovereignty, the World of 'Victorial Lights' - this is the Manzil of Haqiqah, spiritual Truth and is synonymous with absorption in the thought of God. ...
zazamankh7 (8 months ago)
...It corresponds with the Everlasting Body (Tan Baqa). Here is the Nur-i Muhammadi, the White Pearl of the Muhammadan Logos in the white lotus, the pool of the celestial nectar (Amrita-kunda) - 'the moon of the sky rises there' beheld reflected in the lunar pool of Soma from whence streams the draught of immortality: it thus equates with the Grail (also conceived of as the stone, Lapis Exilis, which fell from the crown of the angel Hakathriel at his revolt, signifying the loss of the 'vision of eternity' at the Fall) and is identical with the 'frontal pearl' (Urna) of the Awakened One. Here is the seat of the 'Perfect Intelligence' and the union of Paramatma and Jivatma, following the realisation of which in meditation 'vicious Iblis cannot mislead you' as Sayyed Martuza says. Its season is Spring and its invocation is HU HU.

(4) Heart - ruled by Azrail in the form of a Tiger, it corresponds with the fire-element and the colour red: it is called Mahmudah Maqam, equating with the Divine World of Unicity - this is the Manzil of Maarifah, Divine Gnosis, the 'Knowledge of the Self' (Atma-jnana). It corresponds with the Annihilatory Body (Tan Fani) for 'The Sufi is one who is not'. This centre is the 'Station of the Red Sulphur' (Al-Kibrit al-Ahmar) , the interior castle, palace, citadel or temple of the Red Stone or tincture which transmutes all to gold and is the seat of Paramatma, the Supreme Self. Its season is Summer and its invocation is ALLAH HU.
