@VoxPeople EADS won the tanker bid in 2008 only because the process was severely flawed. The USAF screwed up the evaluation according to the GAO. Had it been properly evaluated Boeing would have won on the basis of lowest lifecycle cost. The award was rightly overturned, just like the first sole-...

@EstorilEm That's the difference in EADS vs. Boeing control philosophy. EADS A/C allow the pilot to suggest manuevers to the computer and it decides if it will do them or not. Boeing does not restrict the pilots options like that, but does incorporate many warning systems to let the pilot know ...

@arsenium666 So Arse, my friend, just like the WTO battle, EADS does things worse than Boeing. $3-5B in illegal subsidies for Boeing and $20B for EADS. One late program for Boeing and three (A400M, A380, & A350) for EADS. Oh, and EADS tankers can't seem to keep their booms attached.

@VWaudiRULEs Launch aid (LA) , as these loans are known, are given at below market rates. EADS is the only LCA producer that has access to them. They only get repaid in full if sales targets are met. LA was fully repaid for the A320 series because it sold well. LA for the A340 was *not* repaid...

@dukeofstradone They do indeed have more accidents, but only because they've been around a lot longer. You need to look at the total fatalities divided by the number of passenger miles flown to get an accurate indication of the safety of an airplane. By this measure Boeings are very safe aircraft.
@frylucas Also, Boeing A/C last longer than comparable AB A/C's. It is uncommon to see a 20+ year old AB, but there are lots of Boeings that old and even older. AB is simply not as durable as a Boeing. When you can amortize the acquisition cost over a longer period of time you cut your total life...
