The Real Pittsburgh Sub
Ever wondered what and were the "real Pittsburgh Sub" is? The Pittsburgh Subdivison ("sub" for short) is a CSXT route that runs between New Castle PA and Mkeesport PA. At Mkeesport, the Pittsburgh Subdivision becomes the Keystone Subdivision and that continues on all the way to Cumberland MD. Along the way, the Pittsburgh Subdivision passes by most of the suburbs of Pittsburgh. The section where the Pittsburgh Sub is most recognizable is between downtown Pittsburgh and Homestead PA. Between there is passes by Station Square, in Pittsburgh, the South Side of Pittsburgh, and finally Homestead. From Homestead it passes through three more suburbs-Braddock, Duquesne, and Mkeesport. The area's of the Southside, Homestead, and Braddock, were home to what once was Pittsburgh Steel Mill's. There is one surviving and still operating which is the Edgar Thompson Steel Works. This is just east of Homestead. There is one remaining part of a steel mill, the Carrie Furnace. It was once an old blast furnace for the Homestead Steel works. Today tourists can take tours of the old furnace.
How the Name Came
Pittsburgh Sub Productions got it's name from me in September of 2011. Before this name we had Keystone Productions, Southwest Keystone Productions, Subdivision Productions, and now Pittsburgh Sub Productions. Since my favorite line, the NS Mon Line was already taken, I came up with Pittsburgh Sub Productions. Since the Pittsburgh sub is one of favorite routes, and it passes through all of my favorite railfanning spots, I decided to call it Pittsburgh Sub Productions. I even made a shirt to go with it! Today, Pittsburgh Sub Productions tries to railfan with all the time we have, and railfan in safe places. Thanks for visiting and come back soon!
My all time favorite Railroads are Norfolk Southern, Conrail, CSXT, and Chessie System
