I think there's a common misconception with the way people think about stocks (not with Georg's excellent analysis):
When a stock crashes (or when a multitude of stocks crash in an index), then it's not the money that is burned, it's just people's (and machine's) _willingness to pay money_ that goes down.
If I own a stock and the stock price crashes, I still own the stock. Nothing lost. Only when I decide to sell at that lower price will I realize the loss.
No money burned, just expectations.

The adoption of operating systems is based on technical considerations only to a certain degree. Social and other "soft" aspects play a big role as well. That's why building a community around OpenSolaris is so important. So feel free to spread the word inside your company and with your friends!
