i had Greene's pop book, elegant universe, but of the many physics guys i've read (having taken physics in high school and college and reading beyond) i enjoyed paul davies the most... mathematical physics guy retired in oz... for u to dismiss these things as no effect is really folly... thats what the whole unification one equation holy grail process is about as to uniting the quantum with the relative... Michio Kaku WAS making this his main focus but turned into a pop scientist kind of like Sagan except Kaku is more into star trek visionary speculation... to help TRY to explain quanta other dimensions are used in some models... parallel universes may require other dimensions especially if they somehow share our universe... (? - i really don't know what i'm talking about because THEY don't know either, but the imaginary abstractions and poetic narrative posing as science is artful enough for me to enjoy (foam, string, resonance, wavicles, vibrations ad absurdum
