The Ystradgynlais Public Band was formed in the second half of the nineteenth century, though the earliest surviving records date back to 1903.
We have recently reformed the junior band, following our recruitment drive at local primary schools and moved several players in the main band onto different instruments. Our main band won promotion to the third section in 2009, but we are still looking for new players to fill some key positions in the Band.
In March 2009, we celebrated Ross's 80th birthday and 73rd year of banding with a surprise party. The milestone also generated a fair amount of publicity, with articles in local and national newspapers and interviews on radio and TV. In April 2010, we made a recording with upcoming singer-songwriter Pete Lawrie.
