How does he play those spicatto/sautille triplets so close to the frog?! Almost looks as if it's only his fingers, and a loose wrist.

@PRODIGYat43 haha not even really a mistake, bow slid a little, could've been something of a wolftone. As amazing as he is, he definitely is human!

@cellomad1 So true! I just looked at the 4th movement again; haven't played it since i was 13....wow, been far too busy with dvorak, haydn, prokofiev and modern works :(. I respect the viola, but no one should have even attempted to take this concerto away from the cello!

@JellyBelly502435 Yeah, in this case it's tremolo. It can be played with sautille too.

When you play it, don't let anyone discourage you by saying things like "No one could possibly play it like Du Pre", because you wouldn't want to play it like DuPre. I have spent years trying to sound like this, and although I'm proud of the work i've done now, there is no way to get anywhere near this...wow

@FiddlerAdam I once played a modern Cremona-italy instrument; far overpriced for how it looked and sounded (35,000) and many cellos, even many less than that price, sounded considerably better--including one very good chinese cello.

Is his cello really that dark? is it wood or carbon fiber?

@proko514 Is that an issue with tchaikovsky's composing or the cellist's counting? Fugues are never easy to count, even when only one musician is playing them (piano) :)
