Explorers never had a HO mill, its the same engine found in an F150. Something like 210-215hp and 280-290 torque. Decent, but hardly high output by even '97 standards...if only the 2nd gen was still built with Ford's new powerplants....

And for jugo, don't be hating on VWs man I own an explorer sport AND a Jetta and while the truck dominates off road the VW will own it above 75 MPH....and its just a 5cyl auto...VWs are built for high speed. And yes a V6 carrado will outrun a stock Ex...

I'm planning to run 4 pioneer 12s off a 1200W mtx amp in my '96 sport, just can't decide on what enclosure to use, what shape and design I mean...I'm thinkin a 7 cube box tuned to 34Hz....wanna keep it subtle where I can stretch the cargo cover over, yet point the port right at the amp for cooling..

I agree the explorer isn't the most economical PRIMARY vehicle, but I was lucky enough to get a decent '96 as a second vehicle and I could only be happier if it had a V8 and manual and 4x4

Of course the ranger's lighter duh that's the point...a little $3000 truck with $5000 of engine can own a $50,000+ Dodge...ima do this to my explorer sport;-)

My 96 does this same thing when below 40 degrees ambient temp. If I give it a little gas, it immediately drops rpm to 400-500 and sounds just like this. Turn it off and restart it and sometimes it idles fine. I suspect fuel issue, suggestions?

Does anyone know why my 4.0 explorer would try to stall itself under load when it's 35 degrees or less then miraculously idle fine after turning key off then on, then repeat the cycle multiple times w/o throwing a CEL?

My Jetta doesn't have a single interior noise in 83000 miles, wish I could say the same for the door hinges and shock tower bushings in cold weather...maybe one day Ford will build a maintenance free car...
