Dave's mic isn't on. His vocals are supposed to mix with Quaife's; poor Pete was left out to dry. Dave's guitar is barely audible, too. Check out the Shindig clip of the same song, which is also recorded live. That is what the Kinks could do. There is not another clip on Youtube of the Kinks...
