How Crowd Funding Is Changing the Entertainment Industry

http://mobcaster.com/fundra...

Earlier today, filmmaker Sam Friedlander said this on Facebook:

_____________

Veronica Mars Kickstarter is at $3.36 million. How will this change things? I don't know, but if you think about it, studio sensibility totally jives with the essence of crowdfunding in general because it removes the thing they hate the most: Risk. They know - before any financial commitment - that they have people ready to consume and promote... People so in love with the project that they are willing to pay for it before it's even shot. That plus free money has to be a studio's dream scenario.

What about... STUDIOSTARTER. Studios list projects in development. Then moviegoers don't just vote, they put their money where there mouth is. You can pre-buy theater tickets or DVDs/VODs of movies you'd like to see made. If the movie gets made, you get charged for the ticket/VOD. If it never gets made, you don't. Just like Kickstarter. They mitigate risk a bit, and we are spared another reboot/remake/sequel that should never happen. Or wait... would this backfire? Thoughts?

I wanted to organize a quick discussion about this tonight at 6pm PST and talk more about this point, and other points related to how crowdfunding is changing the entertainment industry.
