Guys...Probably the most important difference is that the M2 fires with the bolt closed (forward) while the M3M fires with the bolt open (locked to the rear) . like the M60 and M240. The FN M3M (GAU-21) provides helicopter door gunners [like me :)] a vast improvement over the GAU-16 (M2).

Your right! It's not possible. They almost died right there. Would you hover a heavy helicopter at 6200 ft MSL? This is what happens when you fly 99.9% of your missions at sea level. Rookie mistake. Leave the mountain flying to those that are properly trained.
