Sodium and Potassium Sodium is found in almost all foods. Our bodys need sodium to help regulate body fluides, nerve impulse transmission, heart action, and metabolism of carbohydrates. The reacamended amount is 1.1 mili grams a day. If you get to much sodium (more than 3 grams a day) you will have high blood pressure. When you don't have enough sodium you have a hard time mantaning the right fluid balance and your impulse transmission. Another interesting fact is that sodium is used for proserving food. Potassium is found in dried fruits, turkey, potatoes and seeds. Our bodies need potassium so that our kindges function normally.
