I think that the main purpose of abstinence is to avoid pregnancy and STDs and other crap. A lot of teenage girls get pregnant due to pre-marital sex. Sure you can practice "safe sex", wear condoms, use birth control, ect-but it's not 100%. The only thing that is 100% is abstinence....
