About Me:

We have two Macaws. We got them to observe their actual intelligence, and learning rate. Sure.. you could call them experiments. But we provide a convenient and fulfilling existence for them, much less stressful than it would be in the wild. They certainly have no disconcertions about it.. we have set them down on the ground and run off.. and they chase us back home. Haha.

As of now, they are still very young. We try to teach them as much as we practically can, although unfortunately we can't dedicate every second of a 24 hour day.

They do not currently speak much English (their spoken english words currently are: Wait, Drop it, Step up, and No); They comprehend the semantics rather than audio voicing of many English words, such as:No, wangs, shake, turn, left, right, bigger, medium, smaller, "go back over there" bow, fetch, ball, cap, child, tool, come, fly, open, peanut, stick, block, pull, step up, lego, horse, water, tree, inside, and outside.

We have taught them to distinguish objects, such as: cap, ball, child, block, lego, tool, horse and stick. They will lift their wings, and shake on command. They will turn on command, left/right shake on command, and bow on command. They will deny if they are in an angry goosing-mood, but they usually comply. Wizard/gizzard is about two years old, kookoo is about a year and a half old, currently. (in many videos they are younger than this)

They have about a 98% accuracy rate in object distinguishment (if they are not being rebellious). If they are being rebellious, they will just scrape the objects off the tray and rarely find the one we ask.

Some thing funny is we some occurrences get messages saying "they don't actually know which object you are asking about or which is bigger/smaller/left/right.. they just follow your eyes!" It's beneficial to have more evidence, but that's quite ignorant as a proposition of discounting their intelligence. They obviously have visual perception and working photoreceptors. They couldn't survive without it. So proposing that they can't determine what is bigger and what is smaller, but they instead use "theory of mind" to predict that whichever one we looked at (if we stared at the ones we are asking every time) actually describes them as more intelligent than if they were just picking the one we asked.

Our goals are to teach them as much as we can, and learn their max potential.

Any questions/training method ideas/ thoughts, please contact us.

We will also upload some videos of our chameleon! Dumbledore Larry Ultralisk! He is our newest addition to the flock!

Add them on facebook! http://facebook.com/Gizzard...
You can get ocassional updates of their progress.

Interests:
This channels interest is determining the intelligence of an effeciently taught macaw. How much does modern science know about the intelligence of other creatures? Not very much. Most research is wasted on food products, make-up products, etc. More should be dedicated to results that further our comprehension.

Well, they're quiet, small, affordable and they've been domesticated for hundreds of years. Also, they live long but not too long and if they bite you it won't be as bad as a cockatoo or macaw bite.

Well my favorite pet birds are cockatiels (watch my top 5 favorite pet bird video) but I like macaws too.
