Gonzoid mix up many styles and genres in their music, from their punk rock roots (Reminiscent of Magazine and The Fall) to much more ambient and laid back influences (i.e. Eno and Tangerine Dream.) Their music is thematic and at times abstract, their lyrics are both bizarre and captivating, with a hard cynical edge that belies a deep seated animosity towards all that is conventional.

Formed in 1997 and born out of a frustration at what seemed like a lack of creativity in the music world, Gonzoid produce 'Pictures for the ears'. Their output has been incredibly consistent and they have recorded over 50 songs with at least twice that number they haven't yet had time to finish. All the recording has been done in David's home studio. These self produced recordings are of a surprisingly good quality, and can be heard on their current release. Their live performances though few in number are regarded as being truly outstanding and very different to their recorded work.

Before Gonzoid: In 1981 both were part of 'The immoral Majority' a weird mix of punk rock and abstract discord. With a drug crazed cross dressing amphetamine poet as the singer they were always doomed to failure. They did however build a reputation as a fine support act, their live performances were utterly chaotic with random musicians and people from the crowd walking onstage and joining in. They didn't rehearse and always made the main act sound good. No-one who saw them will ever forget them. Subsequently they didn't see one another for 15 years after David left 'The Immorals' and moved to Greece to play drums in a fairly awful Greek pop/punk group. Paul gigged fairly constantly for those intervening years, with various bands actively seeking him out as lead guitarist/songwriter, supplying whoever he was playing with with a vast array of instrumentals that he has been writing since he threw away his violin (He was given a scholarship to learn the violin when he was 10) and got his hands on an electric guitar.
David left Greece in the mid 80's disillusioned with the commercial attitude of the rest of his band and fell into disrepair, living in London and playing bass briefly with singer/songwriter Christopher Hallam, this didn't last long so he decided to further his knowledge of production/engineering techniques (He worked as a roadie and sound engineer from when he was at school until leaving the UK) and become self contained, doing away with the need for a band or for anyone else come to that. This self imposed musical isolation came to an end when he bumped into Paul in a bar shortly after leaving London for the more sedate pace of life in the north west of England. Immediately the two reformed their old alliance and Gonzoid was born.
