I'm persuaded that by far the most potent means I have of effecting permanent, positive change is to cheer and support people such as those at 'The Hitting Stops Here" and "Parents and Teachers Against Violence in Education", among, fortunately, scores of others. Maybe that sounds "sweet" but I am angry. I believe that in even the short run there is literally nothing more important than returning full rights as human beings to children. Neither parents nor educators, governments, "communities", religious nor political movements have a moral right or any business haggling over which "own" the minds or bodies of children, or in what ways those 'commodities' might be best divvied up amongst them. I believe the false notion that human beings may legitimately be considered in some way a possession to be at the root tip of more ills than probably any of us has even yet imagined, but that it's been there, buried, shooting out poisoned vines and branches, distorting the social and natural world into the undeniable mess we now confront.
